A year has passed since Addison George was left at the altar after her husband-to-be announced he was gay. Still friends despite what happened, she secretly harbors hope that all of this was a phase and he will come crawling back to her. That dream is shattered when he announces that he’s engaged to the man he left her for.
Spiraling out of control, Addison agrees to accompany her best friend to the sex party of the year. Hosted by world-renowned erotic romance author, Sebastian Hawk, exposed anonymity is the name of the game. The rules are simple: all guests are required to remain nude for the duration of the event, except for a mask to hide one’s identity, and everyone must partake in at least one salacious delight.
Out of her sexual league, Addison spends the evening with a certain clothed employee who explains to her the world in which the enigmatic author lives. While she wishes to understand more about the strange novelist, Addison can’t help but feel drawn to the handsome and mysterious employee who has introduced her to the sensual realm of Indulgence.
Lost in a world of secrets and passion, Addison will unmask the man behind the mystery while exploring her carnal nature. Through it all, she’ll discover that not everything is as it seems, and to never judge a book solely by its cover.
I’ve read a fair few of McDonald’s books, and I have loved each and every one of them. I have to admit, that while I really enjoyed Indulgence, I much prefer her straight up romance books. She has a knack of writing emotion and UST that rips at your heartstrings. Not that Indulgence doesn’t do this, it does, just in a different way.
Addison is sexually frustrated, and who can blame her. Her ex-fiancee dumped her when he came out as gay, and she hasn’t dated since. She spends her time either working, at yoga (with her ex), or reading the steamy novels written by Sebastian Hawk. Her B.O.B gets a fair amount of usage when she reads them, but it’s not the same.
Enter Amber, the Best Friend, and an invitation to Indulgence, the sex party organised by Sebastian Hawk himself.
Hesitant about attending, Addison goes anyway, hoping to catch the eye of her favourite author after hearing a few rumours about him. Instead, she meets up with Luke, one of the barmen working the party. He pays her attention and takes her on a tour of the party before leaving her with Brix, her yoga instructor.
What follows isn’t pure sex, it’s emotion and longing done the only way McDonald can.
While Indulgence is a quick read, it’ll take you on a journey, with a twist.
I believe McDonald is writing more books to follow on from this novella, and it will be interesting to see where she takes these characters.
